THE UNPARDONABLE SIN

THE UNPARDONABLE SIN
Gus Nichols

I. INTRODUCTION:

1. Matt. 12:22;32; Mk. 4:22-30. The plain import of these words indicates that there is a sin which is no pardonable.

2. These words do not refer to a sin which is merely unpardoned, but to one for which there is never to be an forgiveness, neither here nor her after.

I.   WHAT IS NOT THE UNPARDONABLE SIN?

1. Through a process of elimination, if we find in the Nev Testament where a sin had been forgiven, we may know that that sir is not the “unpardonable” sin.

2. Not all blasphemy is the unpardonable sin — it is one when the blasphemy is “again; the Holy Spirit.”

3. Paul blasphemed Christ and obtained forgiveness 1 Tim. 1:13. 15. But being a Pharisee, Paul believed in the Spirit. There was pardon for the sin of speaking against rile Son of man. Mart. 12:32. Of course this means there was pardon when the conditions of pardon were met.

4. The murderers of Christ who obeyed the gospel were forgiven. Arts 2:23, 36-41; 3:15, 13. Hence, murder is not unpardonable.

5. Jo. 8:1-11. Here, adultery was forgiven — is pardonable.

6. 1 Cor. 6:9-11, Neither one of their sins was unpardonable.

7. All who believe in Christ and obey the gospel will be pardoned. Mk. 16.15, 16; Heb. 5:3, 9.

8. To harden one’s heart, reject Christ, and die in sin is to be unpardoned of pardonable: in —- unless one has blasphemed the Holy Spirit.

III. WHAT IS THE UNPARDONABLE SIN?

1. Matt. 12:22-32; Mk. 3:22-30.

2. It is blaspheming the Holy Spirit — speaking against the Holy Spirit: “They said, He hath an unclean spirit. Mk. 3:27-30.

3. Christ did His teaching by the Holy Spirit. Jo. 3:34; Acts 1:1~3.

4. When Christ cast the devil out of a man in connection with our text, He did it by the Holy Spirit. Matt.12:28. Hence, when they said He had an “unclean” spirit, they were blaspheming — speaking against the Holy Spirit — calling Him an unclean or wicked spirit.

5. We know of no other people in the New Testament or since whoever took this foolish position regarding the miracles of Christ. They called the Spirit of Christ “Beelzebub.” (see our texts.)

6.  Jesus said such a sin would never be forgiven.  First of all, this was the most dangerous sin ever committed: Had it become very popular, the miracles of Christ would have failed to produce faith in Him as the Son

of God. Jo. 20:30, 31. And He would not have succeeded in establishing Christianity.

IV. IT SHALL NOT BE FORGIVEN HIM, IN THIS WORLD, NEITHER IN THE WORLD TO COME”

1. Matt. 12:32. “This world” was the Jewish Age in which Jesus was speaking, which came to an end at the

cross. Heb. 9:26.

2. “The world to come” referred to the Church Age, then future, and' which, would begin on Pentecost. Hence, this sin would not be forgiven, either in the Jewish or Christian Age.

3. You are not guilty of it? Well, you could be lost because of failing io accept forgiveness of other sins. Acts 2:36-41.
